The Manaslu Circuit is Nepal's best-kept trekking secret—a remote, challenging journey around the world's eighth-highest mountain (8,163m). This restricted-area trek requires special permits and a minimum group size, preserving its wilderness character. Crossing the Larkya La Pass at 5,106m, you'll experience pristine Tibetan Buddhist culture, ancient monasteries clinging to cliffsides, and landscapes untouched by mass tourism. This is the trek for those who've done EBC and want something wilder.

Long drive from Kathmandu via Arughat. The road is rough but the scenery is spectacular. Soti Khola is a riverside village where the trek begins.
Follow the Budhi Gandaki River through lush subtropical forest. Cross suspension bridges and pass waterfalls. The trail is relatively flat.
Continue along the river gorge. The trail alternates between dense forest and rocky sections. Jagat marks the checkpoint for permit verification.
Enter the restricted area. Notice the architecture changing to Tibetan style. Deng is a small, authentic village rarely visited by tourists.
Significant altitude gain through forests and mani walls. First views of Manaslu. Namrung has traditional stone houses with flat roofs.
Enter the upper valley with spectacular views of Manaslu. Samagaon is the largest village on the circuit, with gompa, school, and yak herders.
Crucial rest day. Hike to Birendra Lake (3,450m) or Pungyen Gompa for views of Manaslu's ice face. Explore the village and monastery.
Short day to a traditional trading village near the Tibet border. Local people still trade with Tibetan nomads. Explore the area's gompa and mani walls.
Rest day or hike toward the border for views into Tibet. Some trekkers visit Dharamsala as an acclimatization hike.
Base camp for the pass crossing. Basic stone shelter with stunning mountain views. Go to bed early—tomorrow is the big day.
The longest and most challenging day. Start at 4 AM. The climb is gradual but the altitude is demanding. Descend steeply to Bimthang with views of Manaslu's west face.
Continue the descent through rhododendron forests. The landscape transforms as you lose altitude. Tilije is a farming village in the Marsyangdi valley.
Join the Annapurna Circuit trail. Option to continue to Chame or take transport. The trek technically ends here.
Jeep ride to Besisahar, then long drive to Kathmandu. Or stay in Pokhara for rest.
Remote area with limited rescue options. Weather on Larkya La can change rapidly. Guide/porter required by regulation. Proper fitness and acclimatization essential.
