The Annapurna Base Camp trek takes you into the heart of the Annapurna Sanctuary, a natural amphitheater surrounded by towering peaks including Annapurna I (8,091m), Machapuchare (Fishtail), and Hiunchuli. Unlike EBC, this trek passes through lush rhododendron forests, terraced rice paddies, and traditional Gurung villages before ascending into the alpine zone. The trail offers incredible diversity—from subtropical warmth to arctic cold—all within a single journey.

Drive from Pokhara to Nayapul (1.5 hours), then begin the trek. Cross suspension bridges over the Modi Khola and hike through villages to Tikhedhunga.
A challenging day with over 3,000 stone steps to climb. Pass through Ulleri village and dense rhododendron forests. Ghorepani is famous for its sunrise views.
Wake at 4:30 AM to climb Poon Hill for a spectacular sunrise over Dhaulagiri, Annapurna South, and Machapuchare. Descend through forests to Tadapani.
Descend steeply then climb to Chhomrong, the last permanent settlement before entering the Sanctuary. This Gurung village offers stunning views.
Descend to the Chhomrong Khola, then enter the Annapurna Sanctuary through dense bamboo forests. The trail narrows as you go deeper into the gorge.
Continue ascending through the Modi Khola valley. The vegetation thins as you gain altitude. Pass Himalaya Hotel and climb to Deurali.
The grand finale! Pass through Machhapuchhre Base Camp (3,700m) and continue to ABC. You're now surrounded by giants—Annapurna I, Annapurna South, Gangapurna, and Machapuchare.
Watch the sun illuminate the peaks, then begin the long descent. The return journey feels different as you face the mountains you walked toward.
Continue descending via an alternate route. Reward yourself with a soak in the natural hot springs by the Modi Khola river.
Final day of trekking through villages and farmland. A jeep ride takes you back to Pokhara for a well-deserved rest by the lake.
Lower altitude than EBC makes it more accessible. Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) risk is lower but still present. Well-established teahouse network.
