The Langtang Valley Trek is the closest major trek to Kathmandu, yet feels worlds away from the busier Everest and Annapurna regions. Known as the 'Valley of Glaciers,' this area offers pristine landscapes, rich Tamang heritage, and a poignant story of resilience after the 2015 earthquake. The valley sits in the shadow of Langtang Lirung (7,227m) and offers stunning high-altitude meadows, ancient monasteries, and one of Nepal's largest cheese factories.

Scenic but bumpy drive from Kathmandu through terraced hillsides. Syabrubesi is a small village at the confluence of two rivers, gateway to the Langtang Valley.
Follow the Langtang Khola through oak and rhododendron forests. You might spot langur monkeys and red pandas. 'Lama Hotel' is a collection of teahouses, not an actual hotel.
The trail opens up as you enter the valley proper. Langtang Village was devastated by the 2015 earthquake but has been lovingly rebuilt. The views of Langtang Lirung are spectacular.
Short but scenic walk to Kyanjin Gompa. Afternoon free to explore the monastery, visit the cheese factory, or take acclimatization walks in the surrounding meadows.
For the best views, climb one of the viewpoints. Kyanjin Ri is shorter and easier. Tserko Ri is more challenging but offers 360° panoramas of Langtang Lirung, Dorje Lakpa, and into Tibet.
Begin the descent. The return journey offers different perspectives of the mountains you've been walking toward.
Final day of trekking. Descend through the forest and back to Syabrubesi for hot showers and celebration.
Return drive to the capital. Optional: continue to Gosaikunda or Helambu for extended trekking.
Well-marked trail with good teahouse infrastructure. Altitude is moderate. The 2015 earthquake caused significant damage, but trails are now restored and villages rebuilt.
